About Board:

The Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission is one of the departments of the government of Tamil Nadu. The TN PSC Commission is responsible for governing the recruitment of personnel into the state’s public service. TN PSC is the successor of the Madras Service Commission, which came into existence under an Act of the Madras Legislature in the year 1929. Also, Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission was the first Provincial Public Service Commission in India. TN PSC adopted its current name in the year 1970. The Board operates under Articles 315 to 323 of Part XIV of the Constitution of India.

The Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission was composed of five Englishmen and four Indians, with Viscount Lee of Fareham serving as chairman. It was left largely to the discretion of provincial Governments to recruit and exercise control over their services, as deemed proper. The Tamil Nadu Commission also addressed the rate of Indianisation of the Indian Civil Service under the Indian Police. As a result of the discretionary powers left to the provincial Governments, the Government of Punjab and the Government of Madras proposed to set up their own Tamil Nadu Public service commissions. Continue Reading.
