About Panjab University

Panjab University is one of the ancient universities in India. The university was originated in 1882, but it was established in 1947. It has a student strength of 2,50,000 (including Affiliated colleges) and affiliated with 189 colleges. The campus spread over 550 acres in the sector and 25 of the city of Chandigarh. The interesting fact of the university is, it split into 2 parts while the partition of India and Pakistan. one part belongs to India & other for Pakistan. To distinguish the two universities, the name of the university on the Indian side, the spelling for Panjab was hanged to Panjab, after 1947.  Panjab University had no campus of its own for nearly a decade. The administrative office of Panjab University was in Solan and the teaching departments functioned from Hoshiarpur, Jalandhar, Delhi, and Amritsar.
