Participates in mailings, remittances, acceptance of small savings plans, life insurance coverage under postal insurance (PLI) and rural life insurance (RPLI), and the provision of retail services such as collecting bills, selling forms, etc.

The Ministry of Health also acts as an agent of the Indian Government for the provision of other services to citizens, such as the payment of an old-age pension and the payment of wages from the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme ( MGNREGS) of Mahatma Gandhi. India Post, with 155,015 post offices, has the most widely distributed postal network in the world. The country was divided into 23 postal circles, each managed by a Postmaster General.
