About Southern Railway:

The Southern Railway (truncated SR), settled in Chennai, is one of the 18 zones of Indian Railways. It is the soonest of the 18 zones of the Indian Railways made in free India. It was made on 14 April 1951 by blending three state rail routes, specifically, the Madras and Southern Mahratta Railway, the South Indian Railway Company, and the Mysore State Railway. The South Indian Railway was initially made in the British pioneer times as the Great Southern India Railway was Co-established in Britain in 1853 and enrolled in 1859. Its unique base camp was in Tiruchirappalli (Trichy) and was enrolled as an organization in London just in 1890.

As of now, after re-association of existing rail line zones and formation of new zones embraced by the Indian Railways somewhere in the range of 2002 and 2003, Southern Railway has arisen as the fourth biggest zone subsequent to undertaking some check change tasks and production of new lines In 1944, all Railway organizations were taken over by the Government. Also, after three years, when India woke up to freedom in 1947, the stage was set for the joining of various Railways into more modest zones. In 1948, following autonomy, there were upwards of 42 distinct rail line frameworks – a variety of rail route organizations, fluctuating in size and guidelines.

South Western Railway:

Significant relationships of rail route clients, Chambers of Commerce and Industry, the State Governments, and recognized specialists both in India and abroad were completely counseled. N. Gopalaswami Ayyangar, the then Minister for Railways, was the key engineer of the pulling together of Indian Railways. In December 1950, the Central Advisory Committee for Railways endorsed the arrangement for Indian Railways into six Zonal frameworks, in particular, the Northern, the North-Eastern, the Southern, the Central, the Eastern, and the Western.

The Southern Railway zone 9,654 kilometers (5,999 mi) was the primary zone to be formed.[3] Created on 14 April 1951 by the consolidation of the Madras and Southern Mahratta Railway, the South Indian Railway, and the Mysore State Railway, the monetary and geological components of this zone worked with an early coordinated organization. This combination was a significant stage towards smoothing out and arranging the functioning example of the Railway framework. The Railway Press at Royapuram was extended in 1957. K. R. Ramanujam was designated the primary General Manager of the recently framed Southern Railways. Continue Reading.
