About Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL)

Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL) is a coal maker situated in India. The organization was established in 1975 after nationalization of coal mineshafts in India. It works coal mines in Jharkhand and West Bengal conditions of India. It acquired all the private segment coal mineshafts of the Raniganj Coalfield. The organization has its central command at Sanctoria, in West Bengal. Coalmining in India originally began in the Raniganj Coalfield. In 1774, John Sumner and Suetonius Grant Heatly of the British East India Company discovered coal close Ethora, by and by in Sultanpur people group improvement square. In 1835, Prince Dwarkanath Tagore purchased over the collieries and Carr, Tagore and Company drove the field. Their home office was at Sanctoria. Nationalization of the coal business was in stages. In 2016-17, CIL delivered 554.14 million tons of coal. It is the single-biggest coal maker on the planet.  At the hour of nationalization, 414 coal mineshafts, entirely in the Raniganj Coalfield, went under the locale of ECL. Creation from these mines in 1973-74 was 21 million tons, of which 20.744 million tons were from underground mines and the rest from manual quarries.
