About IBPS:

The Banking Personnel Selection Institute (IBPS) is a work center created to promote the recruitment and placement of young graduates at public banks in India (excluding SBI). It also provides standardized systems for the evaluation and processing of results for organizations. After being nationalized in India in 1969, Indian banks needed to expand their branch network across the country to make it more accessible to their customers. This required more personnel, but recruitment through methods such as advertising was not satisfactory. For example, the banks asked the National Bank Administration Institute (NIBM) to develop a selection process that would allow them to recruit competent candidates. In 1984, the NIBM department that performed the test became the IBPS.

The IBPS currently operates as an autonomous body, mainly involved in carrying out selection procedures for the hiring of administrative officials and senior officials in the banking sector. Previously, candidates had to write several exams, which were carried out by each bank for their vacancies. As of 2012, the hiring process has changed. Now IBPS conducts five bank recruitment exams every year. There are two exams for officials in probation, two for administrative levels, and one for professionals (agriculture, law, technology). IBPS is administered by a board nominated by government organizations such as the Reserve Bank of India, the Ministry of Finance, the Government of India and India Institute of Technology Mumbai, Indian Institute of Banking and Finance, National Institute of Bank Management, Association of Indian Banks and Public Sector Banks.
